An Important Note on Traffic
There's only one way into Boothbay, and it's a one-lane road. Since it's Labor Day weekend, traffic will likely build up. Please allow an additional 45 minutes (or more) to make sure you clear the traffic in time. There's no such thing as being too early!
Join Us For a Drink After the Rehearsal Dinner!
If you're in Boothbay, feel free to join us Friday night at 8:30pm at Mine Oyster after the rehearsal dinner for drinks and live music. It'd be great to see you before the big day.
What Should I Wear or Bring?
Dressing for the Weather
In early September, the weather on Squirrel Island can either be warm and summery, or a bit chilly and foggy -- and sometimes both in the same day! We recommend bringing an umbrella and either a sweater or a light jacket, just in case. Having an extra layer handy may be especially helpful for the ferry ride, which can get chilly at night.
Dressing for the Wedding and Reception
We've requested that our guests come dressed in "cocktail attire". For men, this could be a suit, or slacks and a sport coat. For women, it could be a a cocktail-type dress, or a nice blouse and skirt. It'll be summer, so lighter colors are totally fine. For an expanded definition, check out this website.
Footwear
Especially for women, please wear comfortable footwear (or bring a change of footwear with you). We want people to be comfortable walking around, and more importantly we'd like people to be up on their feet and dancing into the night!
What's There To Do?
Boothbay Harbor
Boothbay Harbor has a classic small-town Maine feel. The historic downtown is compact and very walk-able. There are plenty of unique small shops (candy, gifts, antiques, clothing); as well as many bars and restaurants. We suggest just taking a stroll and discovering it all. There are also boat tours, whale watches, and fishing charters available.
Labor Day Weekend Festivities In Boothbay Harbor
The Boothbay Harbor fest will be going on during the weekend of our wedding. There will be live music, food/beverage tastings, and 5K and Marathon foot races on Sunday (the day after the wedding). For a full list of activities, visit http://www.boothbayharborfest.com
Try a Lobster Roll!
Maine is well-known for its fresh lobster. In Boothbay, it's brought in by fisherman fresh daily from lobster traps marked with small buoys in the harbor. If you haven't spent much time in New England, you may have had clam chowder -- but you might not have tried a lobster roll. The traditional lobster roll is an open-face sandwich filled with a lot of lobster meat. The lobster is pre-shelled, mixed with mayo and celery, and served on a fresh toasted and buttered roll. Both Shannon's Unshelled and Mine Oyster are within walking distance, and their lobster rolls come highly recommended -- but there are many other options in town.
